one of two gripped and gone
this board is strictly for powder conditions(after a fresh snowfall take a break from your powder bi-deck and surf one of these first)...it needs about 8" of untracked snow to get going
50" x 11.5" maple core, maple topsheet, 4000 gallium clear sintered base, 2mm eva foam deck, leash string, and loaded with wax
... floaty with natural wood flex
this one is for Kriss G.
thanks Kriss...

couple from the shop
Nick was looking to use a small narrow snowboard he obtain from his basement as a powdersub ...he didn't want to mess with the ingretity of the board so he drew up some plans using the existing hole pattern, here's a shot of the plans about to be cutout of a piece of 1/4" thick arcylic (not the strongest stuff, but the scrap fit)...it will be drilled to match a set of trucks of his choice... I can't wait to mail these plates out to him, his backyard looks so perfect to snowskate, and his current ride can't really take advantage of that epic terrain..his lastest deck and this old nidecker sub will be perfect.....the rush is on, time is of the essence..
39" x 9ish ....7.5 plys of maple, four channelled single deck, currently with sidecut (not sure if thats gonna stay) and a hint of camber... it feels real light, next step applying the sintered base under some heavy pressure...
If things go according to plan the first december sintered based wood sandwich powdersurfskate will be rushed out tomorrow, and landing in the correct hands just in time to head back on the road for a deep snow excursion this weekend....
thanks for checking in

one from the experimental file
my older brother has been a runner for years, the past twenty years or so he has been running on and off again for one primary reason, to stay in shape for surfing...especially since he's moved inland a bit...lately he has entered a few ultra marathons, but strictly trail races, he has no patience for running on the street any more, luckily he lives in a hilly area with tons of trails that picks up some snow do to its slightly higher elevation...I've been telling him how much "speed hiking", I do when I go powdersnowskating on a local toll road... explaining how light and easy it is to travel with a powdersingle versus a snowboard, and how easily it it would be for him to ride on all his downhills throughout his ten mile runs, I believe it would break up the monotony of the long slogs...he agreed, we talked about a 35" mini-version of a powdersurfskate, that had four holes and one string that would act as a wooden 'string' backpack...he told me the trails by him open up to great big grassy meadows in the middle of a heavily wooded Forest, he added that they were real steep in spots, we both daydream for a minute about the possiblities before we agreed upon a size.....I can picture him running for miles in anticipation of discovering the next great slope which lied around every bend...here's the 'lunchtray' with a computer-aided string mock-up...(i kno this crazy idea is way out there, but steve's game)
string has a quick release button tye (sidenote on the lunchtray 11.5"x27") This exact board was mailed out to British Columbia for a snowskate demo for this saturday....the demo was cancelled due to lack of natural snow in the city of Nelson... which is a bummer for that whole crew out in Nelson...not sure what the future holds for the lunch tray!!!
(surfing sidenote) waves finally came back up on sunday and still hanging on...the bottoms could be better, but still fun...
(production sidenote) working on a truck riser plate for nick, a team single deck for sean, and ordering more wood for a two board powdersurfskate order for a good friend Kriss...
..more to come
email decembersnowskates@gmail.com if you would like to order a board
oh, ..believe this is the one year anniversary for the BLOG...thank you all for checking it out...kev
happy riding...with no form of bindings

POWDERSURFSKATE- Model #2 (thinking of a name)
I've been dreaming of making a proper powdersnowskate for a long time, this is what I came up with.. (based on a hundred different designs, mostly burton, and the old winterstick)
Its has a wooden sandwich construction wood core, skinned with a super slippery piece of 4000 gallium sintered CLEAR base (ptex) ...the maple wood should keep it plenty strong with flex....
.
translucent base is epoxied to the core under a severe amount of pressure......... hint of kick in the tail
just have to trim the excess ptex away followed by sealing and gripping, it should be ready for a run this weekend....

production note: I'm currently pressing a mini version of this exact board for Jordan who's throwing a snowskate demo out in Nelson, British Columbia...They're having a city street courted off and covered in snow to hold a snowskate demo, while the winter olympic torch passes thru their town. (on the 23rd? ) Sounds like an amazing time wish I could bail and go, for now I just hope my mini-fish gets finished and shipped out in time..... pics to follow
the local snow up on the toll road by me is still super dry, it has provide so much fun this past two weeks I haven't check a surf report...maybe a dusting tonight who knows
