10/29/11 session one

...the forecast for October snow looked convincing, so calls were made Matt, Jeremy and Steve committed early and we all made plans to meet up around 11am start.. As we all got in our vehicles from different points in the area it was pouring out. Fingers were crossed that it would switch to snow and dump quick enough to get a session in before dark.. Super long story short it went from a dusty cover by 11:30 to 9" by 4:30 pm (on it's way to 19" by overnight) ...the forecasters nailed it! Awesome day, great group, plenty of rust on my end... Best ever October snow I can remember!!

the Indicator

...speaking of indicators, here's a strange weather scenario, got a text from my brother about possible swell on Sunday in my next of woods, so I checked out some weather forecasts... Here's my favorite 'cast; Tropical storm Rina is gonna push up the coast causing good seas on Saturday and Sunday, because of the storm's direction it's gonna bump into a cold area just off the coast causing snow to fall in manhattan on Saturday, which is at sea level! And it's October... So the waves will be tropical and rather warm and it will be snowing at the same time...
Even luckier ... The mountains could receive over 8" at the highest points tomorrow night!... from same storm that got Denver good today .. Winter is underway..

Max and the ski out

(Ski out is alittle strong, this is more like a short jeep road on backside of a small hill) last winter after a fresh snowfall, I met up with Max to powdersurf the hill by his house. On the way out Max, who had only ridden a powderboard a few times threw down the powder board and slalomed down the flat jeep road. I was impressed on his control so I asked him to do it again. He said , "sure" and hustled back up.. I'm hoping this video will display how much control a bindingless board has even in flat lackluster conditions..one would never attempt this on a snowboard (who has the energy for all that buckling) but max was smiling after the mini run- u can even notice the flow in last two turns

57 foot and strapless

I've been looking at this picture of a picture from outside magazine (or something like that) for awhile now. It is sort of amazing thinking the size of the wave, the amount of chop on the face, and the size of that big board (10' 6") but it would be really crazy if he was wearing high tops !! Right? But the fact is he's barefoot which is crazy! Zero help, zero protection .. Au' natural ... Strange? Skip the bindings once in awhile this winter, its easier and more fun then you can imagine..
.. Congrats Shane Dorian .

Calm before the storm (yesterday)

Burke took this pic of some swell filling in (looks fun) .. Today it's a tropical mess outside... big and wooley
