TWO more emails....MOUNT SHOCK / Unnamed Bahamas

...when Kriss picked up his decemberpowderstick, I gave him directions to my backwoods spot, on Sunday he took his extended family out to 'the spot' to track up the fresh powder that had fallen on saturday...I couldn't meet up with them, but it looked like a great afternoon...He nickednamed the place Mount Shock...perfect..
here's a picture of Daniel, Kriss's nephew...... Daniel's about to leave the roll-in and make his own tracks (rad style and I think this is first time on a pow s'skate).....great shot .....dig all the jackets in the background, yo-yo riding gets hot... here's the text to this email:

"Great time!We loved it I will send you some other pics.
That is a great spot
Daniel surfs big time
Took him to PR last year for his 16th
We are surfing tomorrow after the kids swim meet
Everyone wants a December..."

..same day I get this email from my brother who's on a family vacation to a waveless island in the bahamas...we have both surfed the bahamas a couple times, some of the islands get amazing waves others are to shawdowed, this island is usually in the dark....but the dude gets so lucky ...a big swell forced in some pristine peelers dead in front of his room...haven't heard how he made out yet....every dog gets its day....here's the text to his email:

"Offshore and waist high
Trying to find a board"

the forecast calls for snow tonight...13-18" ...might be a good powderstick type day....

....here's a photo of Kriss and his son...first time I met Kriss was in Puerto Rico, he was wearing a business suit and driving a rented mini-van, inside the van was the largest boardbag I had ever seen...oh no he's a logger I'm thinking, he was a longboarder, and an egg rider, ....this was over ten years ago when everyone was riding little thrusters....i wasn't prepared to surf longboard like waves the whole trip......but as usual I was way off base with my first impression, Kriss could surf!! he surfed like the way you thought you did, until you actual saw yourself surfing on home video... I always thought that the big move, or the air, or the killer turn was all that matter...Kriss proved that wrong, his clean style exposed the fact that turns look like shit if you enter them all herky jerky...smooth surfing between point A and B translated to good looking surfing.....one thing I learned watching him was style really does count for everything....

as we got out of the water he kept bumping into people he knew, and they were calling him by a nickname, shit I thought, this dude's a ringer...later that night I asked what the nickname meant... he said it was short for a local beach he surfed daily as a grom....the dude is named after a friggen surf beach....you can always tell the kids who grew on the beach, there style is sweeter...I grew up in the woods twenty minutes from a rinky-dink ski resort....I battle with style every session...so stoked Kriss will be riding this powderboard wherever heads this winter ...I'm sure his son will be shredding on whatever he chooses to ride too...

the broom of god

wind came up so hard on the way home the other day, it covered a few farm house in dust and dirt...never a dull weather moment during the winter

one from the experimental file

my older brother has been a runner for years, the past twenty years or so he has been running on and off again for one primary reason, to stay in shape for surfing...especially since he's moved inland a bit...lately he has entered a few ultra marathons, but strictly trail races, he has no patience for running on the street any more, luckily he lives in a hilly area with tons of trails that picks up some snow do to its slightly higher elevation...I've been telling him how much "speed hiking", I do when I go powdersnowskating on a local toll road... explaining how light and easy it is to travel with a powdersingle versus a snowboard, and how easily it it would be for him to ride on all his downhills throughout his ten mile runs, I believe it would break up the monotony of the long slogs...he agreed, we talked about a 35" mini-version of a powdersurfskate, that had four holes and one string that would act as a wooden 'string' backpack...he told me the trails by him open up to great big grassy meadows in the middle of a heavily wooded Forest, he added that they were real steep in spots, we both daydream for a minute about the possiblities before we agreed upon a size.....I can picture him running for miles in anticipation of discovering the next great slope which lied around every bend...here's the 'lunchtray' with a computer-aided string mock-up...(i kno this crazy idea is way out there, but steve's game)

string has a quick release button tye (sidenote on the lunchtray 11.5"x27") This exact board was mailed out to British Columbia for a snowskate demo for this saturday....the demo was cancelled due to lack of natural snow in the city of Nelson... which is a bummer for that whole crew out in Nelson...not sure what the future holds for the lunch tray!!!

(surfing sidenote) waves finally came back up on sunday and still hanging on...the bottoms could be better, but still fun...

(production sidenote) working on a truck riser plate for nick, a team single deck for sean, and ordering more wood for a two board powdersurfskate order for a good friend Kriss...
..more to come
