Matt's trip

Here's a cool little quick clip Matt M-M sent over from his solo gotham train ride to the "balmy" mountain adventure. After talking to a six tier mountain management heiarchy, we was finally granted access to skate the slopes by the resort owner himself. Nicely done Matt. He was then luckily enough to met up with local boarder Aiden who was willing to film and demo the snot out of a skate for the first time. It looks like Aiden is a natural.
Thanks Matt and Aiden for sharing the video!!

As a sidenote, we grew up 15 miles from this fun, but miniscule little mountain (we called it 'big bump' as kids) and hit it weekly for years, stoked to hear it's still thriving and allowing snowskates now. One last fact about this exact place, Jake Burton learned how to ski here and was a member of their ski team as a teenager. Pretty interesting history. And now Matt has added some more to its history! Viva snowskates

Up the RIVER

...around year 2000 we need another wintertime fix to fill in when the waves went flat, and since it seemed like it always snowed here, why not start taking advantage of it. So we started snowshoeing. Snowshoeing lead to winter peakbagging, which quickly lead to dragging our snowboards up to ride down on the descents. Fun, but there was always a flat spot or valley that would impede our descent, and lead to multiple strapping and unstrapping of bindings.... Bummer after a while. The greatest frustration came when you saw a short but deep powdery slope hit a gully you knew you would have to climb out of to continue downhill What do you do? sit in the knee deep plus snow to strap up for 40 secs? Keep walking down? Mostly we did, but one time we just stood behind the bindings, and it WORKED. Snowskating became the new passion. Something happen yesterday that seemed funny. Due to the lousy winter, surfing has been picking up the local slack. (look at surfing giving back!) Photos : yesterdays sunset, a stiff breeze kept about sixty seagulls hovering over the local fishmarket , pretty remarkable looking. And the four shot is a funky spot that rarely breaks, lone surfer paddling up the river, and winter Clammers keeping it real.

the catalyst doesn't fall far from the tree

..I'm always curious about the projects jeremy (pictured in post below) works on. So periodically upon request he'll send me some shots. Currently he's ripping old windsurfers down the middle and then gluing them back up into sleek missile like wall hangers, if you hold one, you'll want it

Here's a clip of his Dad's work from 1966 that's currently being shown at the WHITNEY museum.. Here's a clip of it, if you can't check it out .. Amazing
