Spring recon

Drove into mountains upstate with my brother Steve Friday night to assess the upcoming spring conditions ... And to try skating the tight ski trails cut into the nations largest park.... Plenty of snow, plenty of trail mix and tons of non-believers .. Super fun trip ... Pics are out of order.... skates rode great... Should be even better in a month or two, when it turns to all corn

Driving in summits were getting snow

due to a hectic schedule on friday we had a very late start...the forecasted snow storm was a bust, so drving up was a piece of cake...we pulled into a truck stop at 2am, woke up in the truck at 6:30 am and after a few stops, made it to trail head by 10:00, thru snow, drizzle, and hail, it was mostly overcast, with a hint of sun, but luckily the local towns had plenty of snow at low elevation...

Upstate

Post sess

the Base of mountain at the trail head had snow past the seats

That's a good indicator for long spring

Can you feel the hate?

...everyone at the trailhead had something to say about the skates, very little shaka! they were pretty sure it wasn't happening for us...even our confidence started to wane, but once we dropped the skates and battled tested a few tight turns, all was good...it was like duck diving a couple sketchy sets at a spot you never surfed before...that feeling of, "oh! i know what to do now"

Steve and the trees

Ski trail cut in 1938 .. No tracks, no lifts

Intermittent snow showers

Steve so stoked to take off his snowshoes

First day ever riding a bi-deck for him!
Joe Smooth !!

At this point, Steve was breaking trail

Nearing the summit (at the base you walk underneath those signs)

Snow until mid- June

Wind was honking up top
