here's a site I've been meaning to link for awhile, it's a place that keeps track of everything snowskating, there's only a few off them on the web, this one is very current, and according to the web designer it is going to be improved upon next season...when I recently took a peak over there, I was very stoked to read some positive stuff about this blog...not sure exactly who to thank, but "thank you" big time

steady powder

there's an area upstate about five and half hours away, that gets an anomly type snow..amazing amounts, and its all do to their extremely unique geographic set-up...in some locations they average 300 inches of snow per season or about 25 feet, that's alot of snow for anywhere in the world... it makes a top ten list of US "snowiest towns" not exactly Mt. Baker amounts but somewhere around 7th on most lists..as a kid growing up 'upstate', it was common to hear snow totals in those towns on the nightly news, (they would easily get 5-7' in one week) but over the years living on the coast this area fell off my radar...but recently I came across an image that reminded me of it, and a quick question to SWS about the area confirmed my memory, SWS shared a story that the farmers build houses with exterior doors on the second stories of their house just so they can walk out in the winter...(his brother lives pretty close to the area who confirmed all of this).... check the pictures...thanks to whoever took these shots:

there has been some amazing backcountry skiing done in this area lately, unbelievable pow, hoping to post more on this soon...and really hoping to ride a powstick there next season

powderstick in the Halfpipe

on saturday i was looking for a short powder run at the summit of a local mountain. Through various networks I heard of some powderstashes up high at a neighboring mountain, On the hike up I ventured by the pipe that had been melted almost clear away (except the bottom third)..I was in a rush to hike to the summit so I didn't want to stop, but the urge to drop in real fast got the best of me. So i grabbed my big old powderstick with no metal edges and rode down the center as a test run....it went fine.... so i ran back up the wall and quickly dropped in over the edge, with the sloppy conditions, (sun cups, ruts and dirt mix) the no edges on my board and a few snowboarders watching, I figured i was gonna wipe dropping in...but the wide nose did fine over the crude and was able to bank a surf turn off the top of the other side... i was loving it. as i funnelled out of the pipe there was a slight drop off into a small mound of snow, which made for a nice little hit..great time....single decks are fun and have potential...however I wasted so much time there I never got to real summit which is about a forty minute hike off the resort summit, to see if there was any real snow...kind of a bummer, but not really...

SKATE THE SNOW (teaser)

.. a couple of weeks ago Andrew Sirokman contacted me about a snowskating documentary he's been working on...(at that time he was looking into a few images of mine for his next project)....Currently, Andrew has entered his film SKATE the SNOW in the ONE REEL film festival at the Bumpershoot in Seattle, Washington, he stated if all went well he was interested in making a larger film about snowskating next year...well his teaser is finished and officially entered into the film festival, I wish him the best of luck with Skate the Snow... its a excellent piece!! check it out...


here's a bit of info from his last email and his trailer (trailer has been post on a few sites already)...please share with friends and pass on some support if your in that area..

"Well it's been a journey and now the fun part. This is the teaser I through together before I leave for Peru. Thank you to everyone that gave so. The full piece has gone in for submission to the one reel film festival at Bumpershoot in September. Regardless I do want to have a showing or two before then but nothing is set up yet. Quick one from last night

seven plys of rock hard maple hand pressed into a 38" TOPdeck

...these top decks are exactly like the average streetdeck, with 19 degree kicks and 3/8" concave, the only difference is the length and the width....the decks come out of our custom molds long, the longer decks prevent the rider from being bucked off, when the speed picks up and the terrain gets mixed...also the extra length addeds to the carveablity of the ride...if your having a tough time locating a long topdeck shoot me an email....maybe test out a demo deck....

Aspirin Surf - cold, clean, light, and waist to chest deep

Plenty of swell this week, yesterday it faded, but was still fun ....
Met a dude who grew up in Hokkaido, Japan, his description of aspirin
snow, was intense, it's all I have been thinking about lately, I asked
if he heard of snowskating? His answer was no... There are images on
the 'net of people snowskating that region, I guess he'll be hearing
about it more in the near future
